Two armchairs made in Boulle technique with the coat of arms of the Sina family

These luxurious Boulle armchairs, dating from the 19th century, belonged to one of the most influential families in Austria-Hungary - the Sina family (Georg Simon Sina von Hodos - compared to the Rothschilds). They were responsible for sponsoring many famous monuments, such as the bridge in Budapest (the coat of arms of the Sina family can still be seen on it, just like on the armchairs), or the astronomical observatory in Athens. In addition to these monuments, they are responsible for many other magnificent pieces of architecture in Austria, Greece, Hungary, Albania, and Slovakia. They maintained close ties with royal families throughout Europe. The chairs are an excellent example of a matched set; it is a wonderful example of a doublet, i.e. there is the same ornament on both pieces of furniture but what is in one is a tortoiseshell in the other an engraved brass plate. The marquetry depicts besides the Sina coat of arms acanthus leaves intertwined with a design characteristic for Louis XIV period furniture. Very intricately cast applications in bronze. One armchair bears the number 132.
